Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Whitman Board of Health along with the South Shore Recycling Cooperative hold several Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days during the year.  These collection dates are open for Whitman Residents to attend with proof of residency required.   Please visit the South Shore Recycling Coop's  website, here you will find collection dates, what is and is not collected as well as other helpful recycling news.  Registration is required! Sat, 04/01/23 9am to 1pm Weymouth  NO LATEX PAINT!

Sat, 04/08/23 9am to 1pm Plymouth NO LATEX PAINT; tires accepted @ n/c*

Sat, 04/15/23 9am to 1pm Hanover Usable latex paint accepted **

Sat, 04/29/23 9am to 1pm Braintree NO LATEX PAINT, copay required!

Sat, 06/10/23 9am to 1pm Hingham NO LATEX PAINT!

Sat, 06/17/23 9am to 1pm Kingston, Duxbury & Pembroke  NO LATEX PAINT!

Sat, 06/24/23 9am to 1pm Scituate & Cohasset NO LATEX PAINT!


* off-rim auto and pickup truck tires only.  Registration is required, click register here link below.  Limit 5 tires/vehicle.

**Latex paint "cleans up with soap and water".  Please separate it from your hazardous material.  It will be recycled into Recolor Paints in Hanover.  Latex paint may also be dried and disposed with regular trash.  More paint info on SSRC website.

**Please note: Mercury is a silver liquid used in many consumer products.  It is ILLEGAL to dispose of mercury or mercury-containing products in the trash or recycling.

Medication Disposal

Unused  or expired medications may be disposed of in the lobby of the Whitman Police Station in the green MedReturn Drug Collection Unit.  Please remove your personal information from the medicine's container.  You may drop your medication off in this secure drop box at any time.

Liquid medication disposal:  Latex paint hardener should be added to the liquid medication which will make the medication inert.  Once hardened the medication can be disposed in the household trash.

Sharps Disposal - 

Click Here for Flyer The sharps container kiosk has arrived at the Whitman Police Department.  The sharps kiosk is located in the lobby of the Whitman Police Station. The kiosk will take 1 gallon or smaller puncture resistant containers such as the red sharps containers available at your local drug store, Walmart or Amazon. All containers should be securely closed to prevent needle sticks.


Not allowed in the kiosk:

  • NO LOOSE NEEDLES/SHARPS
  • NO glass containers
  • NO plastic or paper bags
  • NEVER leave a sharps container outside or on top of the kiosk
  • No unused liquid medication in needles
  • Do not bring sharps to Town Hall - All sharps must be placed in Sharps kiosk at Police Station.  If kiosk is full, please return another day when it is empty to deposit your sharps.

It is important all rules for using the kiosk are adhered to for the safety of workers that service the kiosk.

  

The Whitman Board of Health has contracted Stericycle, Inc. to service the kiosk.
