About the Town
Whitman is a Boston bedroom community, which was the home of the famous Toll House and the Toll House Cookie. A quiet and friendly community, Whitman has an outstanding youth organization that offers a variety of activities. The town is proud of its girls' soccer team who won the state championship, and its recreation program. The town is primarily a South Shore residential community serviced by the Commuter Rail that has retained its rural character.
Historic Park
The town features a historic Olmstead designed park featuring:
- Playground
- Several monuments
- Turn-of-the-Century bandstand from which summer concerts are held
- Two baseball fields
Whitman hosts an annual Fourth of July Field Day at the park with a road-race, carriage or bike decorating, pie eating contests, and other events.
