Being that the water bills are quite high, I think the town should switch to quarterly water bills so people aren't burdened with such a high payment twice a year

I think children and seniors would both benefit from having shared activities that bring them together. Story telling, simple arts and crafts, musical activities, etc. Our senior community has much to share with our youngsters, and many of our youngsters may not always have a lot of interaction with seniors. This is a great way to bring both together in a casual environment which can be both fun and educational as well.

I shall, for lack of a better term, call it plawking or plogging. This activity got its start in Sweden/Scandinavia . Joggers began picking up litter along their path I take walks down Washington St. and when I do, the amount of garbage littering our town is appalling! Now when I walk, I take a plastic bag and pick up the litter as I walk. At first, I was embarrassed pursuing this activity, but the more I thought about it, it is the people who litter that should be embarrassed. I am not an organizer, never have been, but there are some things I feel I have a moral responsibility to address. I don't know if there is an incentive already in practice. If there is, I would love to hear more.

The skate park that has been planned and not completed - why not complete it, make it a use at your own risk facility, require helmets and strongly recommend wrist and knee pads, open until dusk only when an authorized supervisor is present. My hometown has a skate park which is actively supervised. The kids adhere to the rules, take care of the park and fully appreciate that the town gave them a voice.

The Whitman Adopt-A-Street is a volunteer based program to help initiate a clean, safe and attractive community. By working together we can continue to provide a beautiful clean environment in which to live and raise a family. The program educates and encourages people to stop littering and take pride in their community. Volunteers from civic organizations, social clubs, neighborhood associations, individual families, churches, school groups, private employers are encouraged to participate. We need the support of the DPW to utilize dumpsters to bring collected trash. To belong to the Keep Massachusetts Beautiful chapter and have a link to our program on our Town Hall website.
Most importantly, to create a committee who can meet monthly to discuss goals, and future endeavors in keeping the town of Whitman free of litter. Retired teachers, engineers, town residence wishing to make a difference are welcomed.

Vet visits can be very confusing and emotional for seniors who have pets. Although most vets are caring and honest, not all are, and some are prone to take advantage of an elderly person alone. People who would take advantage of an elderly person are less likely to do this if there is someone with the person as a witness to what is being said and prescribed as a treatment. I also think a tip sheet available to seniors would also help or maybe an article in the newsletter as a guide for seniors when going to the vet. Seniors need to know how to get the most for their money and how to save on treatments, medications, and visits. There are ways to save if you know the tricks.

Please leave a comment if you plan on coming and if this isn't a good day and time for you, feel free to suggest a new one so we can make changes
Some possible topics for discussion are:

Keeping communities safe
The topics do not have to be about Whitman only, we are open to discuss any problems people know of that they would like to explore and find creative solutions to.

When Tony Hawk visited Whitman, MA in 1989 and drew a crowd of thousands to his demo show in front of Bike Barn, it was clear then that skateboarding is interwoven with the town’s DNA. Since then, Whitman skateboarders has continued to grow in the margins of our town’s streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Skateboarding is one of those sports that “chooses you” and brings together an eclectic group of people around a single passion; because of this, the Whitman skating community has become even more firmly rooted in the town and in love for the sport, even in the absence of dedicated spaces for skating.

Why are we allowed to gather in groups of 100 Or more for this Sunday’s protest, but our children, the same ones who will be at this protest, aren’t allowed by the town to be on the fields practicing and playing games? I do not understand these arbitrary guidelines, rules, restrictIons, whatever you want to call them. I have seen many protests this week of hundreds of people gathered together peacefully to protest. So why aren’t our local sports teams allowed to gather and practice and play games?
